Courses/Programs

 

Our various courses are designed to help our students to absorb various knowledge and skills from different fields. Courses not only focus on medical profession, but also include social sciences. After completing our required courses, clerkship and internship, students will be awarded by Chang Gung University with MD degrees when they graduate from CGU School of Medicine.
 
During the first two years, students will not only have fundamental courses that provide introduction to medicine, but also have courses which are related to general education, such as information technology, art, literature and etc. In the following 2 years, students will have the chance to learn further medical skills and knowledge. Then from the fifth year in medical school, students have to apply knowledge they have into practice: each student has to complete 2 years clerkship and 1year internship in hospitals so that can master all required techniques and know how to take care of patients.

  1. Holistic medical education and human-centered education
  2. Course design to fulfill the core competencies of a medical graduate
  3. Multi-channel education: lectures, seminars, team discussions, experiments, practical training, experience, debate, problem-based learning, case-based learning, team-based learning, etc.
  4. Vertical development and integration of medicine and humanity: combining humanity care and professional medical knowledge to develop holistic courses with biological, mental, spiritual and social dimensions.
  5. Basic medicine: to enable students to develop critical and reflective thinking, aside from bolstering their medical knowledge and skills.
  6. Learner-centric courses integrating basic and clinical medicine.
  7. Using lectures, CBL & PBL in body structure/functional system-oriented clinical medicine.
  8. Clinical medicine internship for hands-on practice of patient care, strengthening clinical skill training, inter-professional education, clinical reasoning and team work.
  9. Emphasis on comprehensive assessment, remedial education, feedback and consultation to build good core competencies, attitudes and values in medical students.
  10. Build a solid foundation of a holistic curriculum and supplement with diverse educational methods; engage in actual medical practice, enhance experience-based services and reflective learning.

We expect our young students to live an honest life, learn diligently and strive for self-improvement.  

Higher learning is currently facing new challenges and missions in the era of global development. Establishment of a reflective and open civil society is an imperative task. The Chang Gung University completed its planning of General Education Excellence Project in the 2000 academic year, and subsequently established a committee on the general education course planning in Chang Gung University. Our school actively promotes the Core Curriculum of General Education, hoping to meet the challenges and responsibilities faced by all higher learning in the 21st Century. With Chang Gung Global as the core mission, we strive to cultivate a beautiful, truthful and benevolent state of mind in our students; to understand the development trends in the new era, the responsibilities entailed, and to develop a broad perspective, societal care, team work and moral conduct; to face the challenges ahead with full capacity. We hope that through our general education, we can achieve the values, goals and duties imposed by global development and higher education.

IV. Clinical curriculum

The clinical curriculum of the Chang Gung School of Medicine is based on the diagnosis and treatment of the patient’s body structures and functions. The curriculum will be Body Organ system-based; portions of the courses are integrated into the general medicine offered in the 2nd semester of the 4th year. In the 5th year, clinical medicine will be presented in the form of systemic integration and classification. The curriculum is divided into two parts: the first part is focused on lectures, CBL & PBL of body organ and functional system design, simultaneously bolstered with internship of core clinical courses. Each system will incorporate case studies of clinical presentation to enhance student learning. In the second part, students will enter clinical rotation of holistic medical internship practice. The design and evaluation of the courses are based on achieving the six major core competencies with multiple evaluation systems including MCQ, OSCE, Mini-CEX, DOPS, 360 degree evaluation etc. At the end of clinical training, students will be evaluated with Objective Structured Clinical Examination to gauge their learning outcomes.
